Cheap beers are increasingly hard to come by in Södermalm but Kelly’s, just around the corner from Medborgarplatsen, has somehow kept its prices at rock bottom.
We’ve been to a lot of bars in this part of town and nowhere else seems to offer cheaper drinks – especially in the early evening, when Kelly’s runs special deals on bottled beers.
Unfortunately, this is not the most exciting bar in Stockholm – TV screens, flashing fruit machines and the sheer size of the place (it’s huge) seem to drain the atmosphere.
That said, if you’re looking for a cheap place to meet local people and listen to loud rock music until the wee small hours of the morning, it should do the trick quite nicely. There are a couple of bars inside; one seems to fill up faster than the other. When hunger strikes you can order basic pub grub – steaks and the like – from the English-language menu.
There’s live music every Thursday night.
