Kiruna has surprisingly few good coffee shops to choose from and of those, only one really stands out for offering great cakes and sandwiches. So when it’s time to fika in Kiruna, we’d suggest heading straight for Café Safari.
Just a short stroll from the city’s main square, the pretty yellow house serves up home-baked cakes and good, strong coffee in unusual variations. If you’re up for trying something new and a bit Swedish, ask for the ‘latte med hjörtronsylt‘ (latte with cloudberry jam).
Also on sale are chunky sandwiches and healthy salads loaded with prawns, smoked salmon or chicken. The chalkboard menu is in Swedish, so you might have to ask staff to tell you what’s available.
The décor at Café Safari is starting to look a bit shabby but the place frequently gets packed out, and is particularly busy on Saturdays.
