The Ice Music Festival Norway is without doubt the coollest music festival in Scandinavia – or anywhere else in the world, for that matter. It’s not just a fancy name, but a festival where the music actually comes from frozen water.

February 2022 sees the 22th edition of this unique festival where all the participating musicians have built their own instruments out of ice – ready to perform for their warmly dressed audiences in the mountains of Finse, just east of Bergen. This will be the fourth time the festival has been held in Finse after a move from the nearby ski area of Geilo.
Throughout three Norwegian winter days and nights, you can listen to the sounds of instruments such as ice drums, the ice guitar, ice percussion, ice horns and an ice harp, all of which have been beautifully carved. Your challenge will just be to applaud the musicians properly while wearing thick gloves.
Individual tickets and day passes will be available for the festival, and it’s best to buy in advance, to avoid waiting in a queue in -27 degrees.
