With its old timbered houses and cobbled streets, Aarhus old town is an atmospheric venue for the annual Christmas market at Den Gamle By, that lures passer-bys with the scent of roasted almonds and litres of mulled wine.
Beneath twinkling lights, market stalls sell both traditional crafts, contemporary art and design, Christmas decorations, gifts and traditional Christmas sweets and food.
An illuminated lantern trail leads through the old town streets to a Christmas tree and the traditional Christmas goat, and there are horse and cart rides.
Artisan and edible products, ceramics and interior design, paintings and pottery, jewellery and woollen clothes, decorations and delicacies can all be found at the stalls that spread out into the streets.
